4-Day Uganda Safari – Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi & Chimpanzee Trekking in Kibale

4 Days 3 Nights

This 4-day Uganda safari concentrates on what the country does best, placing you face-to-face with mountain gorillas in Bwindi’s Ruhija sector before moving north to track wild chimpanzees through the forests of Kibale National Park.

  • Entebbe OR Kampala
  • June to September
    December to February
  • 2,607 meters (8,553 feet)
  • Gorilla Trekking: Max 8 guests · 1 hr
Chimp Trekking: Max 6 guests · 1 hr
  • Leisurely to Moderate

Some itineraries try to cover everything. This one doesn’t. Four days, two parks, two of the world’s most compelling primate encounters.

The focus is deliberate, and it works in your favor. You spend less time in transit and more time in the kind of forest where the animals set the pace.

The route runs south to north. It opens in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, in the Ruhija sector, where gorilla trekking takes place at higher altitude and in denser terrain than some of the park’s more visited entry points.

It then moves through to Kibale Forest National Park, home to one of the highest concentrations of chimpanzees in Africa.

A 4-day Uganda safari of this kind suits travelers who want a tight, well-organized experience without the extended road time of a longer circuit.

Highlights

  • Trek into Bwindi's Ruhija sector, one of the park's higher-altitude gorilla trekking areas, and spend an hour with a habituated mountain gorilla family
  • Track wild chimpanzees through Kibale Forest in the afternoon, when the animals are active and moving between feeding trees
  • Stay at Turaco Treetops Lodge, a mid-range property that borders Kibale National Park without a boundary fence
  • Travel in a private vehicle throughout, with a professional driver-guide managing all logistics from Kampala to the final return
